Bagua Tactics and Strategy

“Xian Tian is Strategy, Hou Tian is Tactics.” – Luo Dexiu

Luo De Xiu on Xian Tien (pre- heaven AKA circular bagua zhang) training and application:

Xian Tian (pre-heaven) is the “integration system” of the Ba Gua Zhang method. It integrates all the skills that were trained in the Hou Tien (post heaven) (straight) lines. Synergizes the jin, jing, fighting skill etc, and trains it at a higher level, specifically working on training and integrating the Yi into the fighting skill.

“Hou Tien trains techniques, power and application…. By following the pattern of human behavior it builds the fighting skill and teaches fighting theory… These sixty-four palm methods (strategies) are single exercise skills. They are specifically used to explain Bagua fighting methods. Each palm has its own functional method (jins) .” Some people do not think bagua zhang done on a straight line is bagua. The straight line forms train very small pieces of the Xian Tien (pre heaven AKA Circular Set) for application purposes.
