Gao Bagua Seven Star Staff
Gāo Shì BāGuà Zhǎng, Qī Xīng Gān
The seven star staff is one of the famous weapons of Bagua and was known to have been practiced by Dong Hai-Chuan himself.
The Seven Star Staff is made from a seven section long piece of Sichuan Golden Bamboo. The joints are drilled out and a "load" of several ounces of mercury is poured in before the end is sealed shut. During a strike mercury flows freely to the end of the bamboo pole adding to the force of the blow.
Today plain wood or bamboo short staffs are used for safety reasons.
